What have I been doing lately? Well I've been spending a great deal of time at the stable. I helped to rescue an American Saddlebred horse and I am the one who does the riding and training. Which is a challenge for me . I've been working on my dog training skills for several years now but I've been out of the horse world for about 19 years more or less. His name is Ransom and he is chestnut, 16.1 hands tall and a very sweet and eager to please boy with a good mind and a kind soul (not that I'm prejudiced or anything :-). He's been here since the 6th and right now we are just working on building trust and basic communication and I'm trying to find out what he does and doesn't know. I am planning on training him to do Civil War reenacting and perhaps SCA as well. We'll have to see.
We had some excitement earlier in the week. Awesome broke a rib or two and punctured a lung last Wed night so I was up all night with him making sure he was quiet and stable. It has sealed up and he is doing very well, thank goodness. Those of you who know me well know that my pets are my children so you understand how serious this was to me. (And Mr Kevin, as much as he hates anything resembling medical stuff he was there the entire time Awesome was being treated and helped me carry the big guy back into the house.
I have started Zip's bird dog training and according to my friend Jeanie (who is a licenced gun dog trainer) he shows great promise, Hurray!!
Work goes well and that is about all I do, work, dogs and horses. Not a bad way to spend time :-).
